Top 10 new movies of 2011 (since I see loads and loads of films and it’s nice to sort it down to a few favourites)
Kill List - The first film I ever saw at the Tyneside cinema, also the most spectacular headfuck ever. I thought of nothing else for days and made Adam Clery sprint from his home to the Head of Steam just to tell me his theories. An absolute masterpiece and I recommend it to everyone with an ounce of taste.
Melancholia - Just absolutely beautiful, everything about it, so beautiful and so heartbreaking. Oh yes, I cried.
Black Swan - I think pretty much everyone has seen this now. It was one of the first films I saw last year and it was absolutely magnificent.
Scream 4 - A very welcome and not at all disappointing return to one of the very best horror franchises. Love love loved it. Absolutely class.
Drive - Oh hi Gosling, everyone in the world’s dream boyfriend. But his face aside, it was so cool, very beautifully shot and the soundtrack is incredible.
Red State - As the tagline suggested ‘an unlikely film from that Kevin Smith’ and it certainly was but it was also brilliant, he works just as well outside of his usual style.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 - Not at all disappointing end to the series and quite the emotional rollercoaster. I didn’t read them all and somehow managed to avoid the ending for the whole time and I was not let down. Wonderful.
Bridesmaids - Best fun! ‘The Hangover for women’ did not do it justice at all. SO hilarious. Kristen Wiig is too good.
Paranomal Activity 3 - This was just so much fun.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - I just saw this the other day and while some of it was HORRIBLE and very uncomfortable viewing, once they got past the first hour of totally wasted time (easily could’ve trimmed that, it’s very long) it actually was very, very good.
I think I’d struggle to find any more that were properly good but I think that’s a solid list. See them all.
